Careers in Golf

Anyone inspired by legendary golf players like Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods may have entertained dreams of someday turning pro. Fantasies of winning tournaments and signing endorsement deals have led many a child to the golf course, whether willingly or at the urgings of their parents. By the time they high college, most golf prodigies have a good idea if they will ever be able to turn pro or not.

For the multitudes who realize that they don’t have what it takes to compete professionally, there are other ways to turn their love of the game into a career. While most of their friends are seeking degrees in English Lit, pre-law and computer science, the student with golf in their heart should consider a degree in golf management. There are programs at many two and four year colleges and universities or students can look into attending a dedicated golf college program.

Some programs do prepare students to go onto the professional circuit , maybe not to win tournaments but to make a healthy showing. More importantly the golf skills honed during studies will give students the techniques needed to teach golf upon graduation. Other opportunities for those with a golf management degree include managing golf courses and coaching golf, both school teams and individual players.
