Solar Romance: A Love-Hate Relationship with the Sun

Posted by Brian on Mar 20, 2011 in Health

In the ever-expanding world of pop psychology, California people seem more focused on relationships than most other parts of the country. It might have to do with the history of humanist movements in the state, or it might just be that the spectacular weather in some of its places offers head space to think more consciously about everything. And while love-hate relationships are more common than not, it’s also common to develop relationships to other things.

Pets are common, and so are relationships to traffic flows. Nearly every resident has some personal way of dealing with an intense rush hour, and conversations about it often sound like conversations about the significant other. It’s also par for the course to develop relationships with more ethereal objects, like the sun . Because the sun is a frequent visitor in the southern parts of the state, and a bit like an absent father in the north, people tend to develop their own personal relationship with it, and have different ways of managing their changing feelings.

The multitude of sunny days is something that California solar companies can take advantage of, turning its metaphorical powers into something that feeds the household need for energy. While the days of the perfect bronze body are fading, because of new understandings of the skin, as well as environmental shifts, there is still something very healing to the mind about so many sunny days. Like any relationship, there are also rainy days, and after a little while, there are perceivable patterns that come to resemble those of any important relationship.
