Speed is what makes Shuffleboards an Exciting Game

Posted by Brian on Sep 19, 2010 in Sports

Speed is the essential component for shuffleboards. The speed with which the puck travels along the table is controlled by the player. However, it’s the shuffleboards wax that can make or break the player’s game.

Actually, the wax comes in liquid form that is used to coat the playing surface before a silicone base powder product, which is better known as dust or ice, is applied. Silicone spray products are also used between liquid wax and ice to make the playing surface as smooth as can be, also the silicone spray reduces the amount of ice required, but ‘ice’ remains the main product.

Ice dramatically reduces the friction between the puck’s weight and the shuffleboard table surface; there is less drag slowing the puck down. Ice makes the puck slide for incredible distances with just a small push. This is what makes the game; too much ice and the puck is hard to control, too little ice and the puck seems slow and sticky.

Choosing the right wax power or ice doesn’t need to be complicated. Try them all out to see which best suits your needs. For home use, choosing a powder from the slower end range may be preferable, especially if the table is not tournament size. If the shuffleboard is tournament size, 22 feet, the faster range is preferable.
